How to Get Your First Job in Odesk?

I have a couple of fellow mommy friends wanting to try working at home too. I told them to start with Odesk first so they will understand the concept of work at home. Odesk has been helpful to me when I was just starting in the field of home based freelancing, as a matter of fact, it served as a training ground for me way back 2008.

My friends seem to ask me almost the same questions, “how did you get a job in odesk?” So, let me share you this article. I just hope this will help you in one way or another.

Odesk is a staffing marketplace and administrative platform website where a bunch of employers create “workteams” coming from several freelance workers or so-called contractors. The name simply came from the notion of “no desk” where in the objective is to allow everyone to work anywhere and anytime.

The site mainly caters several areas of expertise including web development, programming or software development skills, graphic designing, and writing or administrative skills.

Below are some helpful guidelines on how to apply on Odesk:

1. Create 100% authentic and high-quality profile for free

To bid on specific jobs suitable for your talents and skills, you must provide sufficient time to create your own Odesk profile with honesty and sincerity because an employer can always find out whether you’re lying or not. Also, the platform requires trust between an employer and a contractor to acquire a good working relationship.

2. Familiarize how Odesk works and take several skill tests for enhancement purposes.

It is a must to know every tidbits of information with regards on how the Odesk works to allow yourself to be knowledgeable enough in handling simple to complex works.

The site also offers voluntary skills tests in series of disciplines that include English aptitude test, programming skills, and some feedback system to assess how well your profile made.

3. Publish a well-informative resume and other necessary portfolios needed for the bidding.

Provide your educational background, previous experiences, talents and skills, and other important details that will help in your application. REMEMBER: Uniqueness will set you apart from other contractors to help you win some employers.

There are many things to learn in Odesk platform however, just take these easy steps above as your first stepladder towards being an Odesk Pro.
